MEET THE ZANZIBARIAN FLOWER IN HER FIRST COLLECTION..

My name is Maskat, but known very well as Hayakuhusu au Miss Zib.

I am from Zanzibar, Tanzania. 

I guess I can say creativity runs in the family, my mother had once been a well know Fundi wa Nguo - thats where it all started. 

I started discovering fashion at the age of 13, watching FTV from DSTV was like candy given to me.

 I continued loving it more when I did my International Baccalaureate, I choose art as one of my subjects and I had made my first dress then. 

Loving everything about it, I decided not to stop then. 

And thats how "Kwanza" came to be. 

Here is it, finally..... My first collection.

I chose to call my first collection "Kwanza"  becuas in my native languag -Swahili- it means 'first'. 

I used different materials to show the variety of material we have in Tanzania, The Khanga Originate from my birth island Zanzibar, the Kitenge which is used all over Africa and the maasai "shuka" used for the nomads famously known as Maasai. 
I used a lot of colours, mainly because I am a colorful person, I love wearing and seeing other people wearing colour. 

This collection is inspired by so many things around me, as I said I have been making tough decision lately, so this collect define the extreme opposite.

 I could describe it as fun, let loose, classic, ready, up for anything and happy. 

I am not gonna lei but It took A LOT of work for me to put this all together, I am an independant designer working solo. 

However I would like to thank the awesome friends who supported me throughout this collection .Munajijua :)
